Ingredients

Scale

Sausage

  • 4 Breakfast Sausages

Bread

  • 1 Baguette (~20 inches long)

Egg Mixture

  • 6 Eggs
  • ½ cup Milk (any variety of choice)
  • ½ cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup Mozzarella Cheese, shredded
  • 2 Scallions, diced
  • ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Other

  • 2 tablespoons Butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil to catch any spills and make cleanup easier.
  2. Cook Sausages: Heat a small frying pan over medium heat and cook the breakfast sausages until fully cooked through. Cooking time may vary depending on sausage type, so ensure they are thoroughly browned and cooked. Once done, slice them into rounds and set aside.
  3. Hollow the Baguette: Using a bread knife, carefully cut a deep “V” channel lengthwise down the baguette, taking care not to slice through the bottom crust. Pull out the soft inner crumbs to create a hollow space for the egg filling.
  4. Butter the Bread Interior: Using a pastry brush, coat the inside of the hollowed-out baguette with the melted butter. This adds richness and helps keep the bread moist during baking.
  5. Prepare Egg Mixture: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until smooth. Stir in the shredded sharp cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, diced scallions, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well to combine all flavors evenly.
  6. Assemble the Egg Boat: Pour the egg and cheese mixture into the prepared hollowed baguette, spreading evenly. Nestle the sausage rounds down the center along the baguette’s length for a hearty filling.
  7. Bake: Place the assembled baguette on the lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the eggs are fully set and lightly golden around edges.
  8. Rest and Serve: Remove the egg boat from the oven and allow it to rest for 5 to 10 minutes to finish setting and cool slightly. Slice into serving portions and enjoy warm.

Notes

  • Sausage type can be varied according to preference, including pork, chicken, or turkey sausages.
  • Milk of choice can be dairy or a plant-based alternative as preferred.
  • Tip: You can add other vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • If you prefer a milder taste, reduce the cayenne pepper or omit it.
  • This dish can be prepared ahead to the assembly step, then refrigerated and baked fresh before serving.
