Eggnog Jam Recipe

4.7 from 628 reviews

Eggnog Jam is a creamy, spiced spread made by transforming classic eggnog into a rich, pudding-like jam. Perfect for the holiday season, this recipe blends full-fat eggnog with egg yolks, sugar, and warm spices, cooked gently on the stovetop until thickened and silky smooth with the addition of butter and vanilla extract.

Ingredients

Scale

Jam Ingredients

  • 1½ cups full-fat eggnog
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Mix the eggnog, sugar, yolks, and cornstarch: In a medium saucepan, whisk together 1½ cups eggnog, ½ cup granulated sugar, 2 egg yolks, and 1 tbsp cornstarch until the mixture is completely smooth.
  2. Heat and stir until thickened: Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook the mixture, whisking constantly for about 7 to 9 minutes, until it thickens to a pudding-like consistency. This constant stirring prevents the eggs from scrambling and promotes even thickening.
  3. Add nutmeg, butter, vanilla, and salt: Remove the pan from heat. Stir in ¼ tsp ground nutmeg, 1 tbsp unsalted butter, ½ tsp vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix thoroughly until the butter is fully melted and the jam is smooth.
  4. Optional – Strain the jam: For an ultra smooth texture, pour the hot jam through a fine mesh strainer into a clean bowl or jar, removing any lumps.
  5. Cool and jar: Allow the jam to cool for 10 to 15 minutes at room temperature. Then transfer it to a clean jar or bowl and refrigerate. The jam will continue to thicken as it cools.

Notes

  • Use full-fat eggnog for the best, thick texture; low-fat versions produce thinner jam.
  • Stir constantly during cooking to prevent the eggs from scrambling.
  • Straining the jam is optional but creates a silkier, lump-free spread.
  • Let the jam cool before storing to allow it to set properly.
  • Add a splash of bourbon or rum extract for an adult twist on flavor.
  • To make ahead, store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a week; flavor improves after a day or two.
  • Dairy-Free alternatives like almond or oat-based eggnog can be used with possible slight texture variation.
  • Maple syrup or honey can substitute sugar but reduce quantity slightly to balance sweetness.
  • Feel free to add cinnamon or cloves for extra festive spices.
