5 from 105 reviews

Crispy fried mushrooms that can be prepared either by pan frying or deep frying, featuring a seasoned flour coating and an optional egg dip for a thicker breading. This easy recipe results in golden brown, flavorful mushrooms perfect as an appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Mushrooms

  • 8 ounces sliced mushrooms, cleaned

Coating

  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons seasoned salt
  • 2 eggs (optional, for thicker breading)

Frying

  • Vegetable or canola oil, enough to create an inch or more in the pan for pan frying, or as required for deep fryer

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oil and Flour Mixture: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat for pan frying or heat to 375°F if deep frying. To test if the oil is hot enough, sprinkle a pinch of flour in the oil; it should sizzle. Combine the flour and seasoned salt in a large bowl or zip-top bag.
  2. For Thin Breading: Pour sliced mushrooms into the flour and seasoned salt mixture and stir or shake to coat evenly.
  3. For Thick Breading: Dip mushrooms into the eggs, then coat them with the seasoned flour mixture before frying.
  4. Fry the Mushrooms: Carefully place coated mushrooms into the heated oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes, flipping if necessary, until golden brown. For deep frying, fry the mushrooms for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Drain Excess Oil: Remove mushrooms from oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to soak up excess oil.
  6. Serve: Serve the fried mushrooms warm as a delicious appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • Wash mushrooms but avoid soaking them to prevent sogginess.
  • Additional seasonings can be sprinkled on fried mushrooms for extra flavor.
