Ingredients
- 3/4 cup filtered water
- 1 cup fresh ginger root, peeled and sliced
- 3/4 cup clover honey
- Prepare the Ginger: Peel the fresh ginger root carefully and slice it into thin pieces to release maximum flavor during simmering.
- Simmer the Ginger: In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, bring the sliced ginger and filtered water to a gentle simmer. Keep the pan uncovered and allow it to simmer for 20 minutes so the ginger infuses deeply into the water.
- Strain the Mixture: After simmering, strain the ginger water through a fine sieve to remove all pieces of ginger. You can reserve the ginger for another use or discard it.
- Cool the Ginger Water: Allow the strained ginger water to cool for about 5 minutes before proceeding to the next step to prevent honey degradation.
- Add Honey Gradually: Add the clover honey to the warm ginger water in 1/4 cup increments, stirring each time until the honey dissolves completely. Adjust the sweetness according to your taste preferences.
Notes
- Start by adding honey in 1/4 cup increments to reach your preferred level of sweetness.
- Use filtered water to ensure a clean, pure taste in your syrup.
- The leftover ginger can be used to infuse teas or for other culinary purposes.
- Store the syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
