4.6 from 101 reviews

This Homemade Honey Lavender Lip Balm recipe combines natural ingredients like coconut oil, jojoba oil, beeswax, honey, and lavender essential oil to create a soothing and moisturizing balm. Perfect for nourishing dry lips, this easy-to-make balm uses simple melting and cooling techniques to achieve a smooth, thick consistency with a calming floral scent.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Oils and Wax

  • 2 Tablespoons coconut oil
  • 2 Tablespoons jojoba oil
  • 1 Tablespoon + 1 Teaspoon grated beeswax (about 4 grams)

Additives

  • 2 Teaspoons honey
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil (adjust to scent preference)

Instructions

  1. Melting the Ingredients: In a small saucepan, combine the coconut oil, jojoba oil, grated beeswax, and honey. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the beeswax has completely melted and the mixture is fully liquid.
  2. Adding Fragrance: Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the lavender essential oil to infuse the lip balm with a gentle floral aroma.
  3. Cooling and Thickening: Prepare an ice bath by filling a large bowl halfway with water and adding 2-3 cups of ice cubes. Place the saucepan carefully over the ice bath and stir vigorously with a spatula. Keep stirring until the mixture thickens to a balm-like consistency but is not fully solidified. Avoid splashing water into the lip balm.
  4. Adjusting Consistency: If the lip balm becomes too solid, remove from the ice bath and allow it to warm slightly until it softens enough to stir again. Then return to stirring over the ice bath if needed.
  5. Packaging: Once the lip balm is thickened and emulsified, remove it from the ice bath and spoon or pour it into 6 to 8 small containers, approximately 1 inch wide by 1 inch deep each, for easy use and storage.
  6. Storage and Shelf Life: Store the lip balms in a cool, dry place. They will keep well for 4 to 6 weeks.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of lavender essential oil to suit your personal scent preference.
  • Use clean, dry containers to ensure your lip balm stays fresh and free from contamination.
  • If you don’t have grated beeswax, chop solid beeswax finely to help it melt evenly.
  • Be cautious not to let any water get into the balm during the ice bath step to prevent spoilage.
  • This lip balm is naturally moisturizing and gentle but avoid use if you have allergies to any ingredients.
  • For longer shelf life, store in the refrigerator, especially in warm climates.
