Ingredients

Scale

Cake

  • 1 box Devil’s Food cake mix (prepared according to box instructions)

Soaking Syrup

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (about 14 oz)

Layers

  • 16 oz whipped cream (store-bought or homemade)
  • 22 oz caramel syrup
  • 8 oz Heath English Toffee Bits

Topping

  • 1 King-sized Heath bar, crushed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake: Follow the Devil’s Food cake mix package instructions by mixing the cake mix with required eggs, water, and oil. Bake as directed until the cake is moist and cooked through. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
  2. Cut the Cake into Squares: When the cake is warm but not hot, cut it into small, bite-sized squares to allow better absorption of the condensed milk. Irregular sizes add a homemade feel.
  3. Add Sweetened Condensed Milk: Evenly pour the sweetened condensed milk over the warm cake pieces. Allow it to soak for several minutes so the cake becomes rich and creamy with the milk absorbed thoroughly.
  4. First Layer in the Trifle Bowl: Spread one-third of the soaked cake evenly in the bottom of a trifle bowl to form the first base layer.
  5. Add the Whipped Cream, Caramel, and Toffee: Over the cake layer, spread one-third of the whipped cream evenly. Then drizzle one-third of the caramel syrup on top, followed by a generous sprinkle of Heath English Toffee Bits for texture and sweetness.
  6. Repeat the Layers: Repeat the cake, whipped cream, caramel, and toffee layering two more times to create three complete layers, building a visually rustic yet deliciously layered dessert.
  7. Top with Crushed Heath Bars: Finish by crushing the King-sized Heath bar into small pieces and sprinkling it evenly over the top layer, adding extra toffee crunch and flavor.
  8. Refrigerate: Cover the trifle bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to chill and allow flavors to meld. Serve chilled for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure the cake is warm when adding condensed milk to optimize soaking.
  • You can make your own whipped cream by whipping heavy cream with a bit of sugar and vanilla if preferred over store-bought.
  • The trifle can be prepared a day ahead to intensify flavors.
  • Use a clear glass bowl to showcase the beautiful layers.
  • For a less sweet option, reduce caramel syrup slightly or use light caramel sauce.
