Ingredients

Scale

Beef Mixture

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/2 cup chopped bell peppers

Assembly

  • Fresh basil leaves (about 20-25 leaves)
  • Rice paper wrappers (around 10-12 pieces)

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef mixture: In a skillet over medium heat, add the lean ground beef, soy sauce, and hoisin sauce. Cook the beef thoroughly, breaking it up with a spatula, until the meat is browned and no longer pink, about 7-8 minutes.
  2. Add vegetables: Stir in the shredded carrots and chopped bell peppers into the cooked beef. Continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes until the vegetables become tender but still retain some crunch.
  3. Prepare rice paper wrappers: Fill a shallow dish with warm water. Dip one rice paper wrapper in the water for about 10-15 seconds until it softens and becomes pliable. Remove it carefully to avoid tearing.
  4. Assemble the rolls: Lay the softened rice paper flat on a clean surface. Place a few tablespoons of the beef and vegetable mixture on the lower third of the wrapper, then add 2-3 fresh basil leaves on top.
  5. Roll up: Fold the sides of the wrapper inward over the filling, then tightly roll from the bottom up to enclose the filling securely. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
  6. Serve: Arrange the rolls on a serving platter. Serve immediately for best texture and flavor, optionally with a dipping sauce like sweet chili or peanut sauce.

Notes

  • Rice paper wrappers are delicate; handle with care to avoid tearing.
  • You can substitute ground beef with ground chicken or turkey for a lighter option.
  • Fresh basil can be replaced with cilantro if desired.
  • For added zing, include sliced fresh chili or a squeeze of lime in the filling.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauces for enhanced flavor.
